Heads from the Shadows

September 23, 2023, to March 13, 2024

Dutch painters are renowned for their use of light in their artworks. Yet, where there is light, there is also shadow. In the shadows, beautiful images, contours, and silhouettes emerge. This exhibition highlights various artists who engaged in the art of paper cutting and silhouette creation around 1800.

We also turn the spotlight on prominent figures in photography. In the cellar, not only is Vincent Mentzel’s famous portrait of Queen Beatrix on display, but also Sebiha Öztas’s silhouette-inspired photos. With a broad selection from her portfolio, the triptych is complete, offering a comprehensive overview of silhouettes in various forms.
