Papercutting Art

Papercutting Art 1

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Association for Papercutting Art, a significant part of the exhibition is dedicated to artworks in this genre, practiced in the Netherlands for over four centuries. During that period, people in domestic settings created beautiful creations from paper using knives or scissors. They cut or snipped in their own way, in flat surfaces or with a touch of relief, including portraits, religious and political prints, or scenes from their daily lives.

Many lenders have made works from their collections available that fit within the historical context displayed in the museum (the period between 1780 and 1815).
