A unique museum in Dordrecht

In our museum in Dordrecht, you’ll discover how affluent citizens lived at the end of the 18th century. The style rooms on the ground floor are decorated in the Louis XVI style. The highlight of the museum is the round Maas Room with a view of the busiest three-river intersection in Europe.

Paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries

In our museum in Dordrecht, you will discover beautiful paintings and drawings by artists from Dordrecht who were active around 1800. The most well-known and talented Dordtse painter in the 18th century was undoubtedly Aert Schouman (1710-1792), of whom three works are present in the collection. One of the highlights of the collection is a seascape by J.C. Schotel (1787-1838), who received great appreciation both domestically and internationally.

The collection of Dutch painting further consists of landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits. The building also houses two fireplace pieces by Cornelis Kuipers. Among the highlights of his work are two beautiful flower still lifes displayed on either side of the fireplace in the ‘Groot Salet’.

Truly an experience to walk through this old patrician house. The museum in Dordrecht is beautifully located with the river on one side and the old harbor on the other. Beautiful authentically furnished rooms. Not a museum, but truly a house of the affluent bourgeoisie as it looked back then. Highly recommended!

A nice small museum, you just come to visit a patrician’s house, friendly volunteers. First go to the attic to watch a video with explanations and then down to the style rooms. We got tea in the kitchen for free.

Beautiful historical mansion with a wonderful view of inland shipping. The house provides a nice insight into life in the past. The museum is not too big. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy.

Experience from: Olaf van der Hee

Special to visit this historical building beautifully located in the historic city center. The museum in Dordrecht has some special rooms with 18th-century furniture and paintings. But the best part was the two very friendly hostesses who surprised me with a cup of coffee in the historical lounge.
